ABOUT ME
Hi, I'm Margaret

WHERE I COME FROM
Margaret Fountain-Coleman is a native of South Boston, Virginia, a once rural tobacco and factory-driven city in the central part of the state. She was raised with humble beginnings, the eldest of three children and the only girl of Robert and Sarah Fountain, who remain residents of her hometown. Margaret is a proud mother of four within a
blended family and a grandmother of two handsome grandsons. She is a committed public servant, community advocate, and special education teacher. She has lived and served the Yonkers community for nearly 10 years. As your next Mayor, Margaret will be a new voice for Yonkers, working to ensure that our beloved city has a unified community vision, philosophy, and reality that exemplifies “YonkersONECommunity.”
A THRIVING CAREER
Margaret was educated in the Halifax County Public School system, where she was considered a standout leader, advocate and community servant. After graduating high school, she matriculated at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in Richmond,
Virginia, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Administration of Justice-Legal Studies.
As a life-long learner committed to excellence, Margaret has continued her studies through advanced degree programs that would best equip her to excel in her various positions. In 2009, she graduated from Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, New York, earning a master’s degree in Elementary Education with a focus on Children with Disabilities. She also earned a master’s in Administration, Leadership, and Supervision
from the College of St. Rose in Albany, New York in 2016. Moreover, her educational portfolio logs her achievements earning Master of Divinity and Master of Theology degrees from Duke University Divinity School in Durham, North Carolina. Margaret has been an ordained Baptist minister for more than 25 years, serving churches in North Carolina, Virginia, and New York.
MISSION STATEMENT
Rebranding Yonkers
ONE
Community
A yonkersONEcommunity is an intentional philosophy and framework.
It is vested in core structural strategies that will ensure that our local government does not operate in a silo or a closed system that does not engage the entire community.
Too often, large municipalities have become engaged in how to build the industry of city life neglecting the everyday working citizens.
As your Mayor, I am committed to a yonkersONEcommunity that will make life better for each household and individual who works, plays or stays in this City.
So, join me as we galvanize a yonkersONEcommunity philosophy in Education, Housing, Infrastructure/Innovation, and Public Safety.
A yonkersONEcommunity will bring solutions that works for the entire community.
